The Student Affairs Fee Advisory Board is made up of nine students that are interviewed and chosen by the Student Body President, Speaker of the Student Senate, Graduate and Professional Student Government President, and the Student Affairs Fee Advisory Board (SAFAB) Chair. This board of undergraduate and graduate students represent the student body at Texas A&M University.
During the Spring semester, the board receives comprehensive training in budgeting and operating procedures and learns more about the Student Affairs areas to include: Career Center, Disability Resources, Graduate & Professional Student Council, Knauss Veteran Resource & Support Center, Memorial Student Center, Multicultural Services, Music Activities, Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, Recreational Sports, Student Activities, Student Community Standards, Student Affairs Planning & Research, Student Government Association, and Student Life. Each board member will serve as a liaison to 2-3 of these areas, working with each to maximize the board’s understanding of their services to Texas A&M students.
In the Fall semester, these same groups will present any requests for funding increases. The Board will evaluate each request on an individual basis and make a final recommendation for increased University Advancement Fee funding to the Vice President for Student Affairs. This recommendation will be submitted to the University for consideration during the annual budget allocation process. The Board also reviews any requests for increases in the Student Health Center Fee, Recreational Sports Fee, and Student Center Complex Fee and submits the recommendations to Vice President for Student Affairs.
SAFAB plays a very important role, making recommendations on behalf of all graduate and undergraduate students at Texas A&M. Their recommendations directly affect campus life and the futures of many departments and programs. If you would like to be a part of this process, please apply to serve as a board member. Applications are accepted and the new board is chosen each spring.
